議事録の翻訳

毎月１回、議事録の翻訳をしている。
ネイディブチェックしてもらったもので気になったものをメモ。

(原稿）
XYZ加盟全社の名前を横8m×縦6mの黒板に白抜きでアルファベット順に並べてブース外壁に表示。
（私の訳）
All XYZ participating companies’ name will be put on the outside wall of the XYZ booth. The name plate will be 8m wide and 6m long black board, with the individual company’s name being white outlined and arranged alphabetically.
（添削）
All participating XYZ company names will be put on the outside wall of the XYZ booth on a black board 8 m wide and 6 m long, with company names in white outlined and arranged alphabetically.

私の訳では２文に分けている。
添削では、一文にまとめてある。さすが。
勉強になる。
「白抜き」文字の表現がわからないので調べた。
"white outlined"というらしい。
よく見ると、「XYZ加盟全社」を"XYZ participating companies"と訳している。
"XYZ member companies"にするべきだった。
XYZ主催のイベントに参加する話だったのでごっちゃにしてしまった。

10月10日に田中先生*1と打ち合わせ予定。
（私の訳）
Consultation with Mr. Tanaka will be planned on October 10.
（添削）
Consultation with Mr. Tanaka is planned on October 10.

文法の間違い。
私の訳では「予定」を"will be planned"としていて、二重の予定の意味になっている。
plannedに予定の意味が入っているので、現在形でよいのだ。
直されて初めて気が付いた。
別の箇所でも同じ間違いをしていた。今後気をつけよう。
また、「打ち合わせ」の訳としてconsultationを当ててしまったが、適当でなかったかも。「先生」となっているので、実際はconsultationかもしれないが、meetingにしたほうが無難だったかもしれない。
次は大きく間違えた（うまく表現できていなかった）ところ。

プレス・キットの準備：国内に限らず情報を収集する。
（私の訳）
Preparation of press kit: information will be collected if it is from Japan or not.
（添削）
Preparation of press kit: Information will be collected regardless of whether it originated in Japan.

"ｒegardless of whether"で書き換えてある。
そうか、そう言うのか。これは要チェック。
ところで、議事録の文章は省略が多く、特に主語がない場合が多い。
そのため、受身形のオンパレードになってしまう。
これには不満だが、無理に主語を推測して間違った意味にしてしまってもいけないので、しょうがないと思っている。
